‘Crescents and Stars for Packaging' awards found their winners

Packaging industry will grow with the power of design

Awards found their owners at 'Crescents and Stars for Packaging 2024' competition organized for the 11th time this year by Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD). Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir, President of ASD made a speech at the award ceremony pointing at the major potential Türkiye has for the packaging industry and said: “Our industry became known worldwide by bringing innovation and design to the forefront. Today we are celebrating innovative power, courage, and vision of Turkish designers. Every finalist is the representative of and source of inspiration for ideas that give direction to the future of our industry.”

Awards found their owners at 'Crescents and Stars for Packaging' competition organized for the 11th time this year by Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD). 305 packages applied at the competition that had a record number of participation where they were assessed in 13 categories and according to 11 criteria and 129 packages were short-listed. The competition continues to collect interest from abroad and this year 6 awards went abroad. All participants that rank high at Crescents and Stars for Packaging Competition accredited by the World Packaging Organization (WPO) and Asia Packaging Federation (APF) will be able to participate in WorldStar and AsiaStar Competition and represent Türkiye internationally.

MR. ZEKİ SARIBEKİR, PRESIDENT OF ASD: WE CELEBRATE NOT ONLY WINNERS BUT ALSO THE POWER OF DESIGN

Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir, President of ASD gave remarks at awards ceremony and noted that they celebrate not only winners of a competition but also, the power and influence of design.  Pointing at the fact that functionality of the packaging play a determining role in consumer preferences as well as its design and said: “A good packaging does not only remain limited to protecting the product but also carries soul, quality, and values of the brand to consumers, establishing an emotional bond between the brand and consumer. This communication power granted by the packaging comes even more forward thanks to innovative designs. Minimalism, sustainable materials, user-friendly properties, and aesthetic details shape contemporary packaging trends. The tendency towards environment-friendly solutions in particular, emphasizes the importance of sustainable designs. Recyclable materials and sustainable production processes became indispensable elements of our industry. At this point, the necessity to produce solutions not just with aesthetic concerns but also with environment consciousness increases every day.”

Emphasizing that Turkish packaging industry became globally well-known by bringing innovation and design forward, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir said: “With Crescents and Stars for Packaging competition we announce innovative power, courage, and visions of Turkish designers to the world once more. Every one of our finalists are also representative of and inspiration source of ideas that give direction to our industry. We will continue to work together to build a more innovative, creative, and sustainable future.”

Noting that the packaging industry that achieved a market size of 28 billion dollars as of 2023 will continue to contribute to Turkish economy at an increased rate and our country will protect its standing as the packaging center of Eurasia, Mr. Sarıbekir said all packaging world will meet in Istanbul at the 29th Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair that will be organized at October 23-26 this year. Mr. Sarıbekir said: “Our exhibition organized with cooperation of Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD) and RX Tüyap is supported by all of the associations in the packaging industry. Our exhibition grew by 40 times since its first organization. Last year it received a total of 75 thousand visitors including 13 thousand foreign visitors from 130 countries. This year we are expecting to receive 80,000 visitors including 15,000 visitors from abroad. The high interest in the exhibition demonstrates how successful a track the packaging industry correctly positioned with its price and quality is on.”

Emphasizing that the packaging industry is one of the most important export items of the Turkish economy achieving 3.3 billion dollars in export value in the first half of the year, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir mentioned that they are taking firm steps towards the 20 billion dollars targeted for 2030. Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir continued as follows:

“Design, innovation, sustainability and opening to new markets will show us the way in achieving our export targets. Crescents and Stars for Packaging Competition continues to be an important platform inspiring our industry in this journey, bringing forward innovative solutions. Hereby, I would like to congratulate all our companies and designers who received awards, celebrating success of our industry. We will continue to take bigger steps together to make Türkiye a global brand in packaging.”
