Stable growth in the packaging industry, which completed the previous year with an export income of 6.5 billion dollars, was also reflected in the list of “İSO First 500 + Second 500, İSO 1000”, Major Industrial Establishments which is accepted as a reference point in economic circles. A total of 65 packaging companies were included in the list, 42 of which are members of the ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association. Stating that the positive contribution of the sector to the current account deficit has increased by having a foreign trade surplus of 2.7 billion dollars in 2021, ASD President Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir emphasized once again that the main target is to export at least half of the packages produced in Turkey.

The packaging sector, which focuses on production, export and employment, continues to contribute to Türkiye's total exports. The sector closed last year with an export of 6.5 billion dollars with a 26 percent increase in value. The top three export destination countries were the United Kingdom, Germany and Iraq, respectively.

In 2021, a total of 65 packaging sector companies, 42 of which are members of the ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association, were among Türkiye's greatest 1000 (First 500 + Second 500) Major Industrial Establishments announced by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO).

Upon examining the annual change of the Packaging Sector, it was observed that the number of companies in the İSO greatest 1000 increased from 62 to 65; that the sales from the production of these 65 companies increased by 43.77 percent compared to the previous year; that their exports increased by 32.79 percent and that the number of employees increased by 28.66 percent.

It was stated that the companies in the packaging sector accounted for 3.1 percent of the production-based sales, 1.6 percent of the exports and 1.9 percent of the number of employees of the İSO First 500 + Second 500 Major Industrial Enterprises companies.

WE SHOULD EXPORT HALF OF OUR PRODUCTION

Stating that the growth of the packaging industry continues in the İSO 1000 Major Industrial Enterprises list, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir, the President of the ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association, said that the focus of growth is exports. Stating that the sector's positive contribution to the current account deficit has increased by having a foreign trade surplus of 2.7 billion dollars in 2021, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir said: "As the Packaging Sector, we should aim to export more and more every day. We should work in order to export at least half of the packaging we produce in Türkiye."

Expressing that commodity prices, raw material issues, increases up to 3 times in production costs and container issues are among the factors affecting exports negatively, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir reiterated their opposition to the import of waste. Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir congratulated all packaging manufacturers that entered the ISO 1000 list and wished them continued success.

Sincerely,

ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association
