Eurasia Packaging Fair Breaks Record with the Number of Foreign Visitors

The hub for packaging supply in Europe and Eurasia, Turkey shines once again in the industry with 25th Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair. Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD) President Zeki Sarıbekir mentioned that attended by 1,229 companies and company representation offices from 48 countries, the largest packaging exhibition of Europe and Eurasia was visited by a total of 64,233 visitors from 119 countries, including 9,406 visitors from abroad and 54,827 visitors from Turkey, whereby they achieved the highest number of foreign visitors ever and broke record and said, "Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair is becoming more and more important for the Packaging Industry and contributes to the development of the industry”.

Organized by Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD) in collaboration with Reed Tüyap at Tüyap Fair Convention and Congress Center, the 25th Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair saw remarkable attention from visitors from across the world. Attended by 1,229 companies and company representation offices from 48 countries, the exhibition was visited by a total of 64,233 visitors from 119 countries, including 9,406 visitors from abroad and 54,827 visitors from Turkey, which recorded a 10 percent increase compared to last year. Moreover, 995 hosted buyers from 37 countries attended the exhibition this year. Eurasia Packaging Istanbul International Packaging Industry Fair will be held for the 26th time next year on October 21st - 24th, 2020.

Highlighting that Turkey is the center of Europe and Eurasia for packaging, Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD ) President Zeki Sarıbekir mentioned that Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair is becoming more and more important for the Packaging Industry and contributes to the development of the industry. Mentioning that packaging consumption is an indicator of development in the industry and welfare, Zeki Sarıbekir highlighted that per capita packaging consumption is on a quick rise in Turkey as supermarkets grow and become popular. Zeki Sarıbekir mentioned that packaging consumption doubled in the last 15 years and per capita annual consumption reached 250 dollars.

Highlighting that Packaging Industry is a sector that produces foreign trade surplus and makes positive contribution to current deficit, he also emphasized that they made 2.32 billion dollars export in the first half of the year and produced a total of 918 million dollars foreign trade surplus.

Mentioning that Turkey has many advantages for packaging such as quality, location, production technologies and price, Zeki Sarıbekir said, "We are increasing our contribution to closing foreign trade deficit, a major issue in Turkey's economy. As the Packaging Industry, we continue our efforts to make higher amounts of export and to export at least half the packaging we produce in Turkey".

Packaging industry will achieve its goals

Mentioning that they are aiming for at least 25 billion dollars market size and 5 billion dollars export income as the industry for 2019 and that they are confident they will achieve these goals, Zeki Sarıbekir continued, "We bring about a 350 billion dollars economic movement in Turkey through packaging. Industry-wide, we are highly competitive and have high potential. The products of Turkish packaging industry are directly and indirectly exported to 180 countries worldwide. Our packaging industry takes decisive steps on the way to be the packaging center of Eurasia”.

Young designers of packaging have been awarded

The winners of 15th Packaging Design National Student Competition 2019, where a total of 152 projects competed were announced in the evening of the opening day of the exhibition. The results of the competition were announced with a ceremony during the Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair opening cocktail.

Following the evaluation made by the Selection Committee on 152 student projects that applied for the competition, a total of 18 student projects were awarded a prize. Yaşar University Graphic Design student Uğur Altun won the competition with the ‘Macuni Mesir Packaging Design' project while Gazi University Department of Industrial Product Design student Pelinsu Şirin came in second with her ‘Soapy' project, followed by Istanbul Medipol University Department of Industrial Product Design student Hande Nur Yılmaz with her ‘Soucup' project. The winner of the competition was awarded 5,000 TL, the second winner was awarded 3,000 TL and the third winner 2,000 TL while three students who received honorary mentions were rewarded with 1,000 TL prize. Top three winners are now entitled to receive free "ASD & TÜYAP Educational Scholarship” for 12 months as well.
